Before the list of extra and changes I’ll say that I deliberated for a long time in regard to removing the advertising from the app and making a number of fundamental changes to the operation of the application. I feel I have opened the app more and in other ways restricted the use of it as well. As I mentioned it was a tough choice, though in the end I feel the way I have the app operating now give the initial user a good understanding of what it can do, and allowing to upgrade to a full version if you thing the feature are rich enough, and want to use it with more files.

A note on in app advertising, I think there is a use for the in some apps. This application is not 1 of them . I’ve had advertising in this application for almost a year and have a grand total of $150 ad revenue in that time. Not that good considering the application has more that 200,000 downloads and is used daily by approx 5% of that many users. I feel the number are there for better revenue from that model, though I feel that the advertising company I used (Mobclix) has a benefit for greater numbers and the smaller players like me get little return… So I decided to remove the adds and work on the upgrade path for users. I feel this will result in better returns, time will tell.

In app advertising has been removed and there is now a file restriction all other features are available, you are only restricted by the nuber of files visible at a time.

If you have upgraded and have a lot of files there, your files are safe, you can oly see 5 of them unless up upgrade in app.

The new version adds in app purchase for upgrade. This will allow users of the free version to pay the upgrade fee and have all features unlocked.

These feature include additional file formats including movies, text file edit and create, the cloud service and some bug fixes.

The in app purchase allowed me to make the transition easy for the upgrade with you loosing or moving any files you have in the application.

I’ll post more details when the update is approved.

Over the last few weeks i’ve been notified from some good users of a few minor issues with 2 aspects of File Locker 1.3 the paid version.

After some testing and changes I’ve corrected these errors an will be submitting a maintenance release to Apple within the next 24 hours.

Edit: The updates has been submitted to Apple for review… Bugs will be gone soon.

The 2 issues are.

1. With the cloud service download JPG files would not display even though they are downloaded to your device.
2. Multiple page documents would not scroll as expected.

I’ve been working on a huge update for File Locker Free, this update will give the users of the free version pinch and zoom on images, plus a way to update to the full version via In App Purchasing, which will unlock all the features available in the Paid version.

I’ll be submitting this version after final testing.

The most important part in the “Cloud Service”. This basically means that if you need to get a file into File Locker then upload to our server, where you’ll be given an anonymous short url like “jk3er.jpg” that you enter into the relevant screen in the app and the file will be downloaded to your device and removed from the server.
This is a new feature that will lead to other options in the new future. More information when details are finalised.

File Locker Free gets an update as well. In the new version of our free app you’ll get the create and edit text file feature. This is very handy to create those lists of things you want but not allow anyone to be able to see. These updates are only a few weeks away.

What’s new in 1.2 some minor changes under the hood and the following additions

- Added Pinch and Zoom for images

- Added Create and edit text files in app.

This will allow you to add new text documents or edit text documents.

On top of these there is a new icon.

More updates planned and being worked on, include support for mp3 and video. More information will be available when these releases are done.

File locker free now on the app store

the app yielded a total of 490 downloads “WOW Amazing”.. Ok I realise that for some thats not a lot but it was way better than I expected, and seriously a lot more than the Paid for version of the same App… I’m going to be interest to see how the downloads work or the next weeks or so. I’ll repost some more stats at that point. Needles to say I’m very happy with the result. As a side benefit more people know about the app and more sales of the full version have followed.

What’s next… Well updates of course. I’m working on a few for the 1.2 version of the app I hope to have out in the next week.  Oh and increase the daily use of the app for everyone by making it better of course and find some more ad networks for the free version, with the help of the people at www.mobclix.com.
