Conference Announcement 7th INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM on FSI2 & FIV+N FLUID-STRUCTURE INTERACTIONS, FLOW-SOUND INTERACTIONS, & FLOW-INDUCED VIBRATION & NOISE at the 3rd Joint US-European Fluids Engineering Summer Meeting 1-4 August 2010, Montreal, Québec, Canada This is the sequel to the successful 1984, 1988, 1992, 1997, 2002 and 2006 Symposia, some co-sponsored by JSME, IMechE, CSME, IAHR and AFM, and by several Divisions of ASME. This, 7th Symposium, will be held within the ASME Fluids Engineering Division’s Summer Meeting. Papers in the general areas of fluid-structure and flow-sound interactions (hence FSI2), hydro-elasticity, flow excitation and flow-induced vibrations and noise, and unsteady fluid dynamics related to FSI are invited — both fundamental papers, with no particular applications, and papers related to or inspired by specific systems in aerospace, mechanical and naval engineering. Theoretical, experimental and computational papers are equally welcome. Conference Proceedings will be published in a CD-Rom. Some specific headings of interest are: Bluff-body/near wake interactions; Fluidelastic instabilities of cylinder arrays; Flow-induced vibration in heat exchangers, offshore applications, nuclear reactors, piping, etc.; Hydroelastic problems in naval vehicles and offshore structures; Dynamics of submerged structures; Biomechanical FSI; CFD techniques in FIV; Flow-sound and fluid-structure-acoustical interactions; Active control of FIV and noise; Nonlinear and chaotic, deterministic and stochastic FIV and noise; Turbulence–, vortex– and wave-induced vibrations; Flow-visualization studies; Annular and leakage flow instabilities; FSI and FIV with two-phase flows; Application of smart materials and structures to the alleviation of this class of problems; FSI in MEMS and nanosystems.
